Presented by the Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago, “If Emmett Till Lived: Freedom on American Ground” is a photographic creative monument that imagines the life Emmett Till might have lived had he returned safely to Chicago. More than 110 artists from MoCP’s permanent collection contribute to the exhibition, including Dawoud Bey, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Gordon Parks, Carrie Mae Weems, Hank Willis Thomas and Lance Omar Thurman. The project was developed by curator and scholar Sarah Elizabeth Lewis with Reverend Wheeler Parker Jr.—Till’s cousin, best friend and the last surviving witness to his kidnapping. Together, the photographs examine memory, possibility and the responsibilities of public history. On view through December 19, 2026 at MoCP, 600 South Michigan Avenue. Admission is free. The museum is open Monday–Wednesday and Friday–Saturday 10:00–17:00, Thursday 10:00–20:00, and closed Sunday and major holidays.
